Socio-cultural Animation has its seeds in France and is a concept of working in many (mainly south-) European countries. Animation is directed to the artistic, intellectual, social, practical and physical skills of individuals. The aim of animation is to encourage and empower individuals and groups (i.g. inhabitants) and to discover and unfold potentials that are latent existent. Animation networks individuals and groups to carry out projects and to share decisions. Under a socio-political perspective animation is a democracy-promoting method, which tries to support participation in all life contexts. At the same time, animation presents /shows democracy by acting transparently, by assuming the needs of the people and by promoting a fair conflict resolution, that the life in the community gains quality. Under a individualistic perspective animation aims to a suggestive use of leisure time, the increase of quality of life through projects and activities.
The character of animation: The practise and activities of animation refer to the social and cultural life and interests of individuals (artistic, intellectual, social, practical and physical). The practise of animation is voluntary, open for all individuals and does not presuppose a special level one have to receive and is not obtained to reach a qualification or diploma. Animation is principally practised in a group and usually done by a professional animator with a special education.

Hi!!
I am glad I’ve met you. My name is Charo and I train future cultural animators in Valencia (Spain).
We are working in training on Cultural Animation too, and we have built a blog on Cultural Animation like an educational resource. It is called Andanzas, and it is created like a initiative of the professional module of cultural animation in the "Berenguer Dalmau" High School, in Catarroja, Valencia (Spain).
Our blog is created with the aim of becoming a platform of dialogue, meeting and interchange of reflections, knowledge, resources and experiences about the Cultural Animation.
This blog is interesting for all the people who begin in this framework of the Cultural Animation, but also for who has professional experiences and one is interesting in sharing knowledge, finding new projects or new resources.
So, our blog goes beyond the limits of a professional training and it opens doors to new initiatives.
We are working on it since last December and we have worked issues like Cultural Diversity, Animation and aging, animation and disabled people, animation and women,...
And this is our URL: http://andanzasengrupo.blogspot.com
Our blog speaks Spanish, but you could use the translator on our blog.
I hope you visit us and we could share resource and experiences.
We invite you to participate in our blog with your comments (you could write in English, there is not problem).
